Week 6 SEC attendance figures

There were plenty of eyes on the state of Mississippi last college football weekend, but very few butts in the seats in the Magnolia State.

Despite playing host to two of the most exciting SEC contests of the weekend, the games in Ole Miss’ Vaught-Hemingway Stadium and Mississippi State’s Davis Wade Stadium had the two smallest attendance totals in the conference. The Rebels’ crowd fell just short of 62,000 fans while Mississippi State’s crowd barely exceeded 61,000 fans.

In another thrilling SEC showdown, the Kentucky Wildcats drew more than 62,000 fans for their come-from-behind win over South Carolina Saturday night. The Cats hosted a “blackout,” and posted their highest attendance figure of the season, which made the field-storming that followed the game all the more exciting.

Still, the blackout and the upset win were not enough to crack the top half of the SEC’s attendance figures, finishing with the fourth-highest attendance of the six SEC matchups on the weekend.

The top three most-attended games were arguably the three least entertaining games of the weekend, led by an ugly game between Tennessee and Florida inside Neyland Stadium. The Volunteers cleared the 100,000 fan mark once again with a crowd of 102,455 fans in attendance for last weekend’s woeful showing.

Georgia and Auburn both played before sellout crowds, as Georgia routed Vanderbilt in front of 92,746 fans inside Sanford Stadium, while Auburn humiliated LSU before 87,451 fans inside Jordan-Hare Stadium.
