What’s the temperature like in Lexington, Ky.? Here’s who’s hot or cold for the Kentucky Wildcats.

RED HOT

Jojo Kemp is coming off his best performance of the season. Kemp rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries during Kentucky’s 45-38 comeback win over South Carolina. The victory not only marked Kentucky’s legitimacy as a dark horse contender in the SEC East, but also Kemp’s status as an elite running back in the conference. The sophomore broke the 100-yard plateau for the first time all season and helped his team match its overall and conference win totals from the past two seasons combined.

KEEPING WARM

Patrick Towles saw an efficient performance in Saturday’s win. The redshirt sophomore threw for 208 yards and a touchdown on 20-of-29 passing. Towles benefited from a strong running game to relieve pressure during the comeback. While Kemp and Braylon Heard (67 yards and a touchdown) gained yards on the ground, the passing game provided a second option when necessary against a struggling South Carolina defense.

COOLING OFF

Kentucky’s defense allowed 500 yards on Saturday. The Gamecocks also converted 9-of-15 times on third down. While the Wildcats managed to force three interceptions, the early defensive play made necessary for a fourth quarter comeback.

ICE COLD

Kentucky’s run defense, specifically, allowed 282 yards and four touchdowns. Mike Davis actually looked like preseason expectations Mike Davis with 183 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries. Shon Carson averaged 9.3 yards per carry with 37 yards and a touchdown on four attempts. The Wildcats early deficit was created by an inability to stop the run. As South Carolina focused less on its rushing attack late, Kentucky managed to shift momentum in its favor.
