Coming off a dramatic last-second win over Florida, Les Miles spoke to the media on Monday afternoon. He seemed to be in good spirits, spouting off a bunch of uniquely Miles phrases and heaping praise on his team. He braved what he called a stomach ailment to address the media, thanking everyone who has helped him get to 100 wins at LSU. Here are some dispatches from his comments.

  • Leonard Fournette, coming off a career game, has moved into the role of co-starter. The freshman had 140 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Gators. Miles said Fournette is a “big, fast back who can push the ball” and that he “gets stronger as the game goes on.”
  • Miles said his offensive line had a dominant day. He praised Vadal Alexander, saying he had his most complete game in some time, and also gave credit to La’el Collins for a strong performance.
  • The coaching staff “enjoyed” Anthony Jennings’ quarterbacking against the Gators. Miles said that he and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron wanted to play Brandon Harris, but didn’t get him into the game. Miles said that they will go with the quarterback that gives them the “opportunity to win” against Kentucky. Harris had a solid week of practice, and Miles said that both could play against Kentucky.
  • Florida broke off two long punts, including one that was taken back for a touchdown, but Miles said the team made adjustments. “We’re still confident in how we cover kicks,” the coach said.
  • Miles was not happy about the way Florida stayed on the ball for a long period of time at the end of the fourth quarter. Miles said his team would have had plenty of time to clock, and that he “can’t believe officials would allow the defense to stay on the ball for 24 seconds.” Miles said he’ll be speaking with SEC officials about that.
  • Kwon Alexander, who played one of the best games of his career at linebacker, earned plenty of kind words from his coach. Miles said Alexander’s speed and physicality make him a special player, as well as a “willing(ness) to strike.”
