In preparation for Saturday’s primetime matchup between Ole Miss and Tennessee, Saturday Down South is taking a look at a key matchup that may decide the showdown between the Rebels and the Volunteers.

Ole Miss CB Senquez Golson vs. Tennessee WR Marquez North

The Tennessee Volunteers come calling to Oxford on Saturday night as the Volunteers take on the 6-0 and third-ranked Rebels.

One of the best match-ups we’ll see all season will be Senquez Golson defending Marquez North on the outside. North is a sizable target for Tennessee quarterback Justin Worley, but Golson is arguably the best cornerback in the SEC.

The Landsharks play a lot of man coverage in the defensive backfield. North has the ability to line up both in the slot and on the outside. The 6-foot-4, 221-pound wideout leads the Vols with 25 catches for 240 yards and four touchdowns. North is very good at using his big frame to shield defenders and put himself in good position to catch the ball. His longest catch of the year is just 24 yards, thus Golson will not be tested deep.

Golson gives up six inches to North, but possesses an uncanny ability to make plays on the ball. Ole Miss leads the SEC with 12 interceptions and Golson has a team-high five picks. He had a lot success two weeks ago turning Alabama’s Amari Cooper into a non-impact player in the loss to the Crimson Tide.

This Ole Miss defense will create a lot of headaches for a Tennessee team that is inconsistent on offense, and if Golson can lock down North, Worley and the Vols could be in trouble.
