Once again, the Iron Bowl is the be-all, end all in the SEC this season. It’s tough for any other game to compete with that rivalry, considering it’s helped determine a national championship participant the last five years.

But there are plenty of other terrific games.

The SDS staff debated which one is the best.

OTHER THAN THE IRON BOWL, WHICH REMAINING SEC GAME DO YOU LOOK FORWARD TO MOST?

Jon Cooper (@JonSDS): Mississippi State at Alabama

Is Mississippi State for real? Is Alabama for real? November 15 has playoff implications as undefeated Mississippi State invades Tuscaloosa against — now — one-loss Alabama. The Crimson Tide won’t be overlooking LSU this Saturday, which should make the 15th that much better. Dynamic quarterbacks have beaten Alabama, but the Crimson Tide have played very well at home this year, destroying Florida and Texas A&M. Meanwhile, Mississippi State should enter as the No. 1 team in college football. Alabama-Mississippi State is the game everyone should have circled.

Brad Crawford (@BradCrawfordSDS): Auburn at Georgia

This Nov. 15 game has serious College Football Playoff implications and it’s the SEC East’s last shot at respectability against the other side of the league. The division’s been an underwhelming mess this season, so much so that the current frontrunner isn’t nationally-ranked due to an early-season loss — at home — to Indiana. This one’s a must-win for Georgia to keep pressure on Mizzou, the defending East champs who have one less SEC loss than the Bulldogs.

Chris Walsh (@CrimsonWalsh): Mississippi State at Alabama

A week ago I would have said the Egg Bowl and not given it a second thought, but now it’s Mississippi State at Alabama on Nov. 15. In addition to the obvious role reversal, the Bulldogs are finding out how difficult it is to be the hunted every week, and this will be Alabama’s first home game in a month and second in two months. The Crimson Tide is always beat up after facing LSU, but MSU will almost certainly come in at No. 1 and there’s no rest for the weary. Honorable mentions: The Egg Bowl, Georgia vs. Auburn, and Alabama at LSU.

Ethan Levine (@EthanLevineSDS): Mississippi State at Alabama

The SEC has three teams left with one loss or fewer, and the Iron Bowl is one of two remaining games pitting two of those three teams against one another. The other is Alabama’s showdown with Mississippi State on Nov. 15 in Tuscaloosa, and that game is sure to have major SEC West and College Football Playoff implications. Whoever wins the East will get their rightful shot at the West champion in Atlanta this December, but following Georgia’s loss to Florida the East is no longer a factor in the hunt for the playoffs, which takes a lot of the buzz out of Georgia’s upcoming matchup against Auburn. As a result, the game between Alabama and Mississippi State is far and away the best game left on the SEC schedule, and it should be a clash of titans between the familiar power (Alabama) and the nation’s surprise team of 2014 (MSU).

Drew Laing (@DLaingSDS): Alabama at LSU

Who says I’m looking forward to the Iron Bowl???? DONT TELL ME WHAT TO THINK!!

It seems like every season this is always a heck of a game. Luckily, I won’t have to wait much longer. And with this year’s matchup in Tiger Stadium, the atmosphere will be nuts. Don’t get me wrong … games at Bryant-Denny Stadium are a sight to behold, but there’s always something different about night games in Death Valley. LSU is coming off a huge win against Ole Miss and Leonard Fournette keeps getting better with every passing week. I’m very interested to see how he does on such a big stage against the top rush defense in the conference.

Ok … you caught me. I guess I AM looking forward to the Iron Bowl.

Jordan Cox (@Jordan_Cox): Alabama at LSU; Mississippi State at Alabama

I’m really looking forward to both of Alabama’s next games. At LSU this weekend and then home against Mississippi State. Many people Alabama is still the best team in the SEC, and it’ll have its chance to prove the next two times out. LSU is surging and doesn’t lose at home at night. Both teams are coming off a bye week, so you never know what may happen in this rivalry game.

No. 1 comes calling the following week. Mississippi State has played with a survive-and-advance mantra the last two weeks with close calls at Kentucky and against Arkansas. Alabama poses the toughest test the Bulldogs will have faced to date, having to travel to Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Win, and the Crimson Tide are in perfect position heading into the Iron Bowl. Lose and it’s a mid-tier bowl for Nick Saban and company.

Brett Weisband (@WeisbandSDS): Alabama at Mississippi State

Mississippi State’s visit to Tuscaloosa in less than two weeks should be a delight. The Bulldogs will likely still be undefeated, going up against the most dangerous team currently outside of the College Football Playoff top four. The Crimson Tide have the offensive firepower and stingy run defense to give Mississippi State headaches, and it’ll be an awesome test of mettle for Dan Mullen’s team to travel into Bryant-Denny Stadium as (presumably) the top team not just in the SEC, but in the nation. Of course, if LSU pulls an upset over Alabama this coming weekend, this game becomes a lot less meaningful, but it should still be among the best of the year for SEC fans.

Jason Hall (@JasonHallSDS): Mississippi State at Ole Miss

Despite Ole Miss’ two-game losing streak, the annual matchup between the Rebels and Mississippi State still has high stakes. Ole Miss could play spoiler to its biggest rival’s championship hopes by capturing a win in its final game of the season. On the other hand, Mississippi State has the chance to beat its hated rival en route to a potential championship run.
