Injuries are a big topic today as a result of the horrible Laquon Treadwell injury this weekend and news breaking that Marcus Lattimore is retiring from the NFL as a result of continued knee complications.

The athletes we watch each week are warriors, and unfortunately, these warriors sometimes suffer bad injuries. Here are four of the most horrifying SEC injuries from recent memory:

WARNING: SOME OF THESE ARE GRAPHIC.

Marcus Lattimore (2012)

Not only was Lattimore’s knee injury quite horrifying to watch, it took the breath away for all football fans as it was his second injury after the young man battled back to get on the field. It was announced today that Lattimore is retiring from the NFL amidst continued knee complications.

Tyrone Prothro (2005)

Prothro made a great catch for Alabama against the Gators and fractured both major bones (tibia and fibula) in his leg. Prothro sadly was not able to make a comeback to the game of football after his injury.

Kenyan Drake (2014)

Alabama running back Kenyan Drake suffered a gruesome ankle injury against Ole Miss. Drake has since had surgery and is out for the remainder of the 2014 season.

Laquon Treadwell (2014):

It might not be the most gruesome injury, but it’s likely the most heartbreaking considering the context of the injury. Treadwell made a fantastic attempt to get into the end zone for the go-ahead score against Auburn. After breaking his leg, referees poured salt in the wound by reversing the touchdown and calling a fumble. Treadwell underwent surgery immediately and even found a few moments to share an inspiring Instagram post.

If we look outside the SEC, many of us immediately go to Willis McGahee’s devastating knee injury during the national championship game of Miami versus Ohio State. How impressive is it that McGahee rebounded and had such a long and productive NFL career?
