South Carolina defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward said after practice Thursday that senior cornerback Brison Williams will return to his familiar safety position and Skai Moore’s back in the lineup at middle linebacker for Saturday’s game at Florida.

Jonathan Walton will play on the weakside while Rico McWilliams and Chris Lammons will start at the cornerback spots.

“We’re playing a team that’s very athletic and we want to get our most athletic guys on the field,” Ward said. “Brison’s played well for us at corner, but I think he’s played better (during) his career at safety, getting him tighter in the box.”

The Gamecocks have prepped throughout the week for Florida’s two-headed running game with quarterback Treon Harris as the Gators’ dual-threat wrinkle.

The true freshman’s won both of his first two career starts, helping Kurt Roper’s offense pick itself off the canvas after Jeff Driskel was sent to the bench.

“He makes plays with his feet when he has to and they do a good job of getting him out of the pocket,” Ward said.

Ward stopped short of comparing Harris to Joshua Dobbs, Tennessee’s playmaker under center who rushed for 166 yards and a couple touchdowns during South Carolina’s last time out.

“Dobbs is way bigger and more physical than Mr. Harris,” Ward said. “They’ll run him some, but we won’t see (much) inside run other than a quarterback draw.”
