South Carolina faced its second consecutive overtime game in Saturday’s matchup against Florida. Two weeks earlier, the Gamecocks fell 45-42 to Tennessee, running three unsuccessful passing plays that backed them out of field goal range. In Week 12, Steve Spurrier tried something different.

With the Gators ahead 20-17, South Carolina called four consecutive rushing plays to Mike Davis, resulting in 12 yards. After a 5-yard reception by Pharoh Cooper, the Gamecocks moved even closer with a 2-yard run by David Williams for a first down.

On first and goal, quarterback Dylan Thompson kept the ball on a 4-yard read option that fooled Florida’s defense, scoring a game-winning touchdown. The Gamecocks earned a crucial victory and are one win away from securing bowl eligibility.

Two weeks after ignoring the running game in overtime, the Head Ball Coach defeated his former team with a run-heavy scoring drive.
