After a long and grueling season, we’ve watched the last regular-season weekend. Who stands out?

OVERRATED: ALABAMA SECONDARY

I have to say that this weekend, the Alabama defense was overrated. Nick Marshall, a transfer defensive back from Georgia, threw for 456 yards against this secondary and Sammie Coates scorched them for 209 yards.  This Bama defense hasn’t been all that great this season, but they’re still sixth in the country in scoring defense giving up only 16.9 points per game.

The secondary for this Bama defense has sort of been exposed against high-powered offenses such as West Virginia and Auburn, but their run defense has been great. We’ll see if Maty Mauk and the Missouri offense can sling it around on them in the SEC championship game.

UNDERRATED: MISSOURI DEFENSE

The job that the Missouri defense has done, especially lately, has been pretty amazing.

The Tigers went into Knoxville against a red-hot quarterback and shut him down. They played with a SEC East championship on the line against a red-hot Arkansas team and shut down that running game. You have to give credit to where credit is due, and I think it’s about time that people start giving respect to Missouri.

The defense has definitely kept these guys in games, but Maty Mauk and this offense has also been playing very well as of late. He finds ways to put points on the board and seems to do it all in the fourth quarter.

This is a very confident and angry team right now. It’s playing with a giant chip on its shoulder and coach Gary Pinkel is using that.

I didn’t think that Missouri matched up well with Arkansas at all and picked the Razorbacks to win this game pretty easily. Man was I wrong. That Missouri defensive line and linebackers came to play and made plays when they needed to. They have definitely picked up the pace the last few weeks and are without a doubt worthy of playing for the conference championship.

Hats off to you, Missouri.
