Auburn has added an opponent to its 2017 non-conference schedule, as the Tigers will play host to the Mercer Bears.

The scheduled date and kickoff time has yet to be announced, according to a release from Mercer. AL.com’s Joel A. Erickson is reporting a source tells him the game is slated for Nov. 18, 2017.

“We are excited about the challenge of facing one of the top teams in the Southeastern Conference in 2017,” said Bears head coach Bobby Lamb in statement. “This is a great opportunity to test ourselves against an FBS power in one of the best stadiums in the country.”

Auburn and Mercer have squared off 11 times, in a series dating back 1896. The upcoming meeting between the two schools, separated by just 130 miles, will mark the first time the Bears and Tigers have played since 1922.

Mercer is in its second season with a football program, after the team was disbanded in 1941. The Bears have won 16 games, most recently going 6-6 in its first year in the Southern Conference.

Auburn has its power five opponent scheduled for 2017, a road matchup versus Clemson.
