Tulsa has hired Baylor offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery for its head coaching position on Thursday, according to multiple media outlets, passing over Texas A&M offensive coordinator Jake Spavital.

Spavital interviewed for the position last week. The 29-year-old just finished his second season as Texas A&M’s offensive coordinator. He worked at Tulsa in 2008 as an offensive quality control assistant, his first job in college football.

Texas A&M has already lost two high-profile members of its staff since the regular-season finale against LSU. Defensive coordinator Mark Snyder was fired the day after the loss, and last week recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach David Beaty left to take the head coaching job at Kansas.

The Aggies face West Virginia (7-5) in the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 29. Spavital will be squaring off with his mentor, WVU coach Dana Holgorsen. Spavital worked under Holgorsen at three previous coaching stops: Houston, Oklahoma State and West Virginia.
