LSU SOPHOMORE QB ANTHONY JENNINGS

Stats: 104-of-213, 48.8 percent, 1,460 passing yards, 10 passing TDs, 7 INTs, 20 sacks, 115.3 rating

Big-time game: He didn’t light up the stat sheet in any game this year, but I think Jennings played his best game in the opening week against Wisconsin. He ended up 9-of-21 for 239 yards and two touchdowns, with zero turnovers. The completion percentage isn’t that great, but when he did complete the ball, it was for a big gain.

Not his best effort: Jennings didn’t have his greatest game against Alabama. He was 8-of-26 for only 76 yards with one touchdown and one pick. The Tigers defense kept LSU in the game, but if Jennings could have made any plays at all, LSU could have upset the Tide.

Improvements: He needs to work on the accuracy. He has the arm strength to pitch it all over the field, but sometimes the ball goes all over the place. Jennings will benefit from getting another year under this offense and getting a little more in sync with the receivers. He has one of the best running backs returning next year and teams will be daring him to throw the ball.

Strengths: Arm strength. Jennings can spin it and throw it all over the field. He is only a sophomore so he has time to grow and improve on everything else. Getting this season under his belt is also very beneficial for him.

Weakness: Jennings really struggled with his accuracy. In this type of offense, you have to be accurate. He’s a young guy and the SEC isn’t the easiest league in which to play. He needs to improve on that aspect if LSU wants to have a special season, as it’s hard to compete when the QB doesn’t complete passes.

Overall: Having to constantly look over your shoulder as a quarterback is an awful feeling. Coach Les Miles did help his confidence by sticking with him, but he didn’t play very well all year. I’m really not sold on the offensive scheme that LSU runs and I think it really handicaps the quarterback. This kid has a ton of talent and I hope he gets a chance to showcase it a little more in the future.
