West Virginia will be without starting quarterback Clint Trickett in the Liberty Bowl against Texas A&M as the quarterback continues to recover from a concussion suffered late in the season.

The Mountaineer will turn to Skyler Howard for the game against the Aggies on Dec. 29, with the sophomore making his second career start. Howard led WVU to a win over Iowa State in the Mountaineers’ season finale, and played well in relief of Trickett against Kansas State the week prior. He presents a more dangerous threat on the ground than Trickett did, having run for 69 yards in the Iowa State win.

Trickett was the trigger man for WVU head coach Dana Holgorsen’s fast-paced offense, totaling 3,285 yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 67.1 percent of his passes in 2014. Trickett had returned to practice last week, with Holgorsen commenting that the passer looked good as Howard improved with more reps.

Trickett revealed some troubling information about his history with concussions to the media on Friday. The quarterback told the media he is done playing football and will move on to coaching after he suffered his fifth concussion in just over a year.
