South Carolina’s win over Miami in this season’s Duck Commander Independence Bowl was the highest-rated postseason game in Shreveport, La., since 2006, according to Nielsen ratings for the nationally-televised game broadcast Dec. 27 on ABC.

The Independence Bowl scored a 2.5 U.S. rating, on par with the game’s Alabama vs. Oklahoma State matchup nine years ago. An estimated 2.9 million households and 4.1 million viewers tuned in to watch the Gamecocks’ seventh win of the season and fourth consecutive bowl victory.

It was the first time the game was played on a Saturday since 1990, which helped ratings researchers say.
