The LSU Tigers have the best college football helmet in the country, CBS claims.

The website staged an NCAA Tournament-style bracket to determine the program with the best headgear in the sport. LSU, a No. 1 seed, thrashed Navy, a No. 5 seed, in the championship, earning 60 percent of the vote.

The Bayou Bengals also took out No. 16 Illinois, No. 9 Mississippi State (Round of 32), No. 4 Auburn (Sweet 16), No. 3 Notre Dame and No. 1 Michigan.

Here are the results of the other SEC teams in the bracket:

  • Georgia advanced to the Sweet 16 as a No. 4 seed, but lost to Michigan.
  • Alabama advanced to the Round of 32 as a No. 2 seed, but Nick Saban’s former school, Michigan State, shocked the Tide as a No. 10 seed.
  • Florida advanced to the Round of 32 as a No. 6 seed, but lost to Notre Dame.
  • Arkansas beat No. 2 seed Ole Miss in the Round of 32 before falling to the Fighting Irish.
  • Mizzou failed to pull off the 5/12 upset in the first round of the tournament, losing to Navy.
  • South Carolina, a No. 14 seed, fell to Florida State.
  • Tennessee advanced to the Round of 32 as a No. 7 seed before falling to Baylor.

These polls always are a popularity contest, and LSU fans showed up at the ballot. There are plenty of people who disagree that the Tigers claim the most iconic helmet in college football.

I think the gold helmets, with the big LSU letters and the Bengal Tiger, are pretty cool. What about you?
