In hopes of strengthening a secondary that lost three players to transfers last week, Auburn will host former Michigan cornerback Blake Countess this weekend, a player interested in playing elsewhere for his final season of eligibility.

Countess made 30 career starts for the Wolverines and during the 2013 season, tied for the Big Ten lead with six interceptions. In 38 games for the Maize & Blue, Countess registered 114 tackles including 72 of the solo variety.

“I have heard really good things about Auburn,” Countess said to Rivals. “I’m really excited to get down there and see what it’s all about.”

Extremely thin at the safety spot with several players on the mend, cornerback’s a position of need as well. Last week’s transfers leave the Tigers with nine scholarship defensive backs on the roster including early enrollee Tim Irvin.

If Countess chooses to play on Will Muschamp’s defense, he’ll compete for a starting job in August and at worst, add immediate depth at the back end.
