Watching the wall-to-wall coverage of SEC Media Days this week should serve as a reminder that there is no shortage of opinions on SEC football.

Just like the conference has its share of personalities taking the podium to talk about their teams this week, it also has a unique cast of characters covering the league.

We have ranked the SEC’s top 10 commentators and media figures based on their entertainment value:

10. Greg McElroy

A relative newbie to the commentary game, the former Alabama quarterback appears to be developing his voice as an analyst on the SEC Network set. McElroy displays a good knowledge of the league while articulating his insights from being one of the conference’s better performers in the not-so-distant past.

9. Dari Nowkhah

SEC fans are really fortunate to have this guy as one of the top anchors on the SEC Network. He is knowledgeable, likable and professional, which is a good combination of attributes for a guy charged with consistently leading the direction of flagship shows like SEC Now.

8. Dave Neal

Love him or hate him, the voice of the now defunct Jefferson Pilot telecasts needs to be on the list. The sound of Neal’s voice became synonymous with the idea of watching SEC football while eating breakfast in your pajamas on a Saturday morning. Neal now brings quality play-by-play to several sports on the SEC Network.

7. Jesse Palmer

This list felt like it needed a heartthrob, so why not get it out of the way with the inclusion of the everyone’s favorite Florida quarterback turned reality TV star? Palmer has actually developed into a very strong color commentator in his post-Bachelor days, earning the top spot on the SEC Network game day crew alongside Brent Musburger.

6. Gary Danielson

Entering his 10th year as the color commentator for the SEC on CBS broadcast, the former quarterback brings a strong, insightful voice to what is usually the top conference match-up each week. He can come off as critical at times, which causes a stir among some SEC fan bases that are sure he’s out to get their teams. He insists that he really doesn’t care one way or the other.

5. Tony Barnhart

There is a certain amount of respect owed to anyone who has earned the moniker “Mr. College Football.” A graduate of the University of Georgia, Barnhart has long been immersed in the SEC football culture, and has done a very good job of spreading his knowledge of the league as a reporter, author, broadcaster and analyst for decades.

4. Brent Musburger

At 76 years old, Musburger is as high as he is on this list more for his overall body of work than for what he might offer us as a play-by-play voice on the SEC Network this season. Who can forget Musburger getting lost in his admiration of Alabama QB AJ McCarron’s girlfriend during the 2013 BCS national championship game?

3. Clay Travis

No one rattle the cages of the SEC football masses quite like Clay Travis. The former lawyer turned author and college football personality has become a household name for SEC football fans in recent seasons thanks to his edgy takes on the league’s off-the-field happenings, as well as his ability to turn the ill-advised actions of SEC fan bases into news. He has become one of the top college football voices on Fox Sports, with his brand reaching the internet, radio and television.

2. Verne Lundquist

Though he has been calling games for decades, “Uncle Verne” has turned into a true SEC staple over the last 15 years. As the lead play-by-play man for the SEC on CBS, Lundquist has called many of the league’s memorable moments. He also has a penchant for coming up with some unique verbiage when the excitement of a game gets the best of him.

1. Paul Finebaum

There was really little question as to who would top this list. The Paul Finebaum Show, known for its cast of overly enthusiastic listeners and callers, has long been a SEC football institution. The SEC Network’s decision to simulcast the radio program on television has only increased the popularity of the show by exposing the spectacle to consumers that were out of the show’s listening area. In the midst of facilitating what can turn into a crazy sideshow, Finebaum has managed to develop into one of the league’s most respected voices.
