ESPN Insider released an article Tuesday making some strong predictions about several preseason quarterback competitions, including four in the SEC.

Some of the educated predictions and opinions in the article are strong, especially regarding the Crimson Tide.

Alabama: David Cornwell

ESPN’s Travis Haney characterized Jake Coker winning the job as “a major upset.” Haney reported that Coker’s lack of leadership and inability to win over teammates has been his biggest downfall at Alabama. He also wrote that true freshman Blake Barnett, expected to redshirt, could be closer to winning the starting job than Coker.

Georgia: Greyson Lambert

Haney isn’t the first media member with some access to predict Lambert will win this job, as David Pollack made the same projection during SEC Media Days. Haney classified Lambert’s maturity and experience as major assets in the eyes of Mark Richt and especially former NFL coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

LSU: Brandon Harris

Haney’s informed opinion on Harris just reinforces what most of us have thought for quite some time: LSU would prefer that he starts ahead of Anthony Jennings. But the Tigers can’t hand him the offense unless he exhibits better maturity and a command of the playbook. There have been signs he’s improved in those areas in 2015. Will it be enough to trust him with this season?

Texas A&M: Kyle Allen

Haney attributes the fact that there’s even a competition between Allen and Kyler Murray to two things: 1) coach Kevin Sumlin promised Murray the chance to compete, and now is fulfilling that promise, and 2) the “competition” will continue to push Allen to get better. It’s difficult to manage two young five-star quarterbacks and keep them both happy. But this competition is the first effort to do so.
