Alabama lost several high-profile juniors to the NFL draft after winning the SEC championship. Still another wave of players either graduated or have yet to mature as young four- and five-star talents. Then there’s the incoming consensus No. 1 recruiting class Alabama signed Wednesday.

For those reasons, it’s difficult to project the best five players for Alabama this fall. Several returnees, particularly on the offensive and defensive lines, appear primed for breakout seasons. And with offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin searching to replace the production from the stunning Blake Sims-Amari Cooper combination, any number of skill players could explode.

But as of Feb. 6, here are the five best returnees for the Crimson Tide in 2015.

5. CB Cyrus Jones: A half-dozen players could’ve claimed this spot. Jones was good, not great, in 2014, but that was enough to earn him AP second-team All-SEC status. He led the team with 16 pass deflections and 13 pass breakups last season, forcing two fumbles and intercepting three passes along the way. The Crimson Tide is loaded with young talent at corner, but until someone else steps up, expect opposing offenses to throw at whomever plays opposite Jones more often than not.

4. LT Cam Robinson: The SEC produced some fierce defensive ends in 2014, even by the conference’s standards. As a true freshman, Robinson faced teams with players like Dante Fowler, Trey Flowers and Markus Golden. The 6-foot-6, 323-pound man-child more than held his own, becoming the 247Sports Freshman of the Year and earning Freshman All-American accolades. After a full offseason to get better, knowing what it takes, Robinson should develop into one of the best offensive tackles in all of college football.

3. RB Derrick Henry: The former five-star recruit made gradual progress during his first two seasons, culminating in 290 yards of offense on just 35 touches in the SEC championship and College Football Playoff semifinals. Now that T.J. Yeldon is headed for the NFL, and with an offensive line prepared to make a slight improvement as a run-blocking unit, it’s time for Henry to shine. Even with such intense competition for carries, a healthy Henry should top 1,200 rushing yards in ’15.

2. DE Jonathan Allen: Listed at 6-foot-3 and 272 pounds, he’s the quintessential 3-4 end at Alabama in that he can rush the passer (5.5 sacks, 7 QB hurries in ’14) or hold the point of attack (11.5 tackles for loss). He earned AP first-team All-SEC honors — as a sophomore — while hardly any casual fans outside Tuscaloosa even know who he is. Don’t worry, though. He’ll make a name for himself as a third-year player and the anchor of the defense this fall.

1. P JK Scott: He’s not going to be the Crimson Tide’s MVP, but if we’re talking which player will be the best at his individual position in 2015, it’s got to be Scott, right? A freshman All-American and a Ray Guy Award finalist as a freshman, Scott averaged 48.0 yards per punt. He didn’t outkick his coverage, though, as opposing teams combined for just 83 punt return yards in 14 games. Alabama’s secret weapon is a field-position All-Star and could be the best punter in the nation in 2015.
