Alabama’s coaching search continues to roll on as some of the betting favorites to replace Nick Saban were released on Wednesday.

Saban decided it was time to step down after 17 seasons in Tuscaloosa. He won 7 national championships, which beat Bear Bryant’s record of 6. The season ended after a Rose Bowl loss to Michigan in overtime.

The odds for coaches next in line for Saban include some with SEC ties. Oregon’s Dan Lanning and Ole Miss’ Lane Kiffin were 2 of the top options, per Sports Betting Dime:

Lanning has been in coaching since 2008 and was on Saban’s staff as an Alabama graduate assistant in 2015. He reunited with Kirby Smart at Georgia, serving as a Bulldog assistant from 2018-2021 before taking the Oregon head coaching job. Kiffin has obvious ties to Saban and Alabama, working as an assistant in Tuscaloosa from 2014-2016.

Dabo Swinney is the 3rd favorite to take the opening. A native of Birmingham, Swinney played for the Crimson Tide from 1990-92 and was on staff from 1993-2000.

The next 3 coaches in order of favorites to replace Saban were Kalen DeBoer, Steve Sarkisian, and Mike Norvell. DeBoer has no prior SEC experience, but is a high-profile name who is coming off of a national championship appearance after losing to Michigan.

Sarkisian comes in with the 5th-best odds to take the position. A former Alabama analyst (2016) and offensive coordinator (2019-20), Sarkisian shouldn’t be a surprise name on the list. Texas went 12-2 in 2023, including a win over Alabama in Tuscaloosa, making the College Football Playoff.

Lastly, Norvell is in the same boat as DeBoer with no SEC ties, although the Seminoles have won at least 10 games or more under him in the last 2 seasons. Florida State was just left out of the Playoff with Alabama making it at No. 4.

A report surfaced saying that Alabama players should expect a hire within 72 hours from Saban’s announcement to the team. Fans will have to wait and see who the program goes with as the next HC.
