Alabama’s College Football Playoff resume took a major hit by barely beating rival Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

FOX Sports analyst Joel Klatt said it put a “black eye on [the] resume” for the Crimson Tide. Alabama needed a 31-yard TD pass by quarterback Jalen Milroe to secure a 27-24 comeback win with 32 seconds left on Saturday.

“But what a win for Bama, and then they stay alive, “Klatt said on the “The Joel Klatt Show” on Monday. “And they’re still going to get people that argue for them because that’s just the way college football works even though they survived on a 4th and 31 because Auburn doesn’t know how to play defense.”

“They had a spy,” Klatt continued about Auburn. “They rushed 2 and had a spy. Fourth and 31. What are we doing?”

Alabama faces a tough climb in the College Football Playoff rankings besides the last-second win over a subpar Auburn squad. Georgia (12-0), Michigan (12-0), Florida State (12-0), and Washington (12-0) all have unbeaten records.

After those 4, Oregon (11-1) could claim its place in the playoff with a Pac-12 Conference championship win over Washington on Saturday. Alabama would need to do the same in the SEC Championship against Georgia, and it may need to outweigh the Auburn nail-biter, based on Klatt’s take.
