This year’s Alabama squad is one of the best college football teams in recent memory. And one stat shows the Crimson Tide may be the best team in more than a century.

After its 52-21 win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl on Saturday, Alabama has now beaten all 12 of its opponents this season by at least 20 points. According to CBS, the only other team in college football history to open a season with 12 straight wins decided by at least 20 points is Yale in 1888.

In 1888, Yale went 13-0 and didn’t allow a point the entire season. Its 12th straight victory by at least 20 points was a 105-0 win over Wesleyan. However, the Bulldogs’ streak ended with a 10-0 win over Princeton in the season finale.

Alabama went undefeated in SEC play this season, going 8-0 against conference opponents. Its closest game so far this year was a 45-23 win over Texas A&M on Sept. 22.

The Crimson Tide ended conference play on a strong note with shutout wins over Mississippi State and LSU, followed by Saturday’s decisive victory against Auburn.

Alabama will look to keep rolling when it plays Georgia in the SEC Championship Game next Saturday. A victory will seal a spot for the No. 1 Crimson Tide in the College Football Playoff.
