Alabama QB, former 4-star recruit, entering NCAA transfer portal

Alabama QB Eli Holstein is looking to continue his college football career elsewhere. It was widely reported Wednesday afternoon that Holstein is entering his name into the NCAA transfer portal to explore options for the 2024 season.

Holstein did not play during the 2023 season. He will be considered a redshirt freshman with 4 seasons of eligibility at his next stop.

Out of Zachary (Louisiana) High School, Holstein was a sought-after recruit with 24 scholarship offers. He was rated 4-stars, the No. 8 quarterback and No. 88 prospect overall in the Class of 2024 on the 247Sports Composite.

Alabama had a deep quarterback room for the 2023 season. In the battle to succeed Bryce Young, returning quarterbacks Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson were joined by 3 newcomers via high school signings (Holstein, Dylan Lonergan) and the transfer portal (Tyler Buchner).

Milroe is returning for 2024 after establishing himself as QB1 during the season. Simpson is also expected to be back. Buchner, meanwhile, is returning to Notre Dame and will play lacrosse. Five-star QB Julian Sayin signed as part of the 2024 recruiting class.
