Alabama QB Mac Jones sets school record against Georgia
Alabama quarterback Mac Jones did something Saturday night that Tua Tagovailoa or any other signal caller in Tide history ever accomplished.
Jones notched his third straight 400-yard passing game, this time against the Bulldogs top defense. Last week, Jones became the first Alabama quarterback to throw for back-to-back 400-yard games. So, he essentially broke his own record, and it will likely be one that stands for a long time.
Jones threw for 435 against Texas A&M, 417 against Ole Miss and 417 against Georgia.
Currently with over 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Jones has thrown for 410 yards and 4 touchdowns against Georgia. He’s thrown touchdowns to DeVonta Smith (2), Jaylen Waddle (1) and John Metchie (1).
Jones was supposed to be the placeholder and bridge from Tagovailoa to 5-star freshman Bryce Young. Instead, he’s quickly become the SEC’s best quarterback who will become a major factor in the Heisman Trophy race.
Alabama knocked off Georgia 41-24.
Mac is a beast. It’s great to see him playing so well.
And that was the best defense in the country. The heisman talk better start immediately. People are focusing on lawrence’s stats but he has a couple games on mac. Ypg, qbr mac is more impressive against much better competition.
If Bama and Clemson swapped schedules, the media would be asking how anyone besides Mac could possibly win the Heisman. The ACC is a joke. Other than Clemson, they’re still a basketball conference.
My point exactly. Mac’s better on a per-game basis and even if he wasn’t, every 1 yard for lawrence should be worth 2 for Mac. ACC is a joke. Even with notre dame.
You guys certainly are obsessed with Clemson. Oh gee, I wonder why. Could it have something to do with … Clemson winning 2 titles against Bama? And that was against Bama defenses that would have never given up 24 points in a half to a 5’9″ walkon.
So let Jones get his Heisman. More power to him if he keeps putting up these numbers in 10 games against SEC competition. But so what? Chances are Alabama’s defense is still going to have to hold Lawrence to fewer points than the 48 that Matt Corral and that GREAT Ole Miss supporting cast managed. Clemson didn’t just start playing against ACC competition this year. The ACC was as bad or worse when Clemson beat Bama for 2 titles and needed an onside kick – and Saban admitted that he did so because he couldn’t stop the Clemson offense – to keep it from being 3.
I agree on Clemson. They have a weak schedule but it doesn’t make them any less awesome. They’ll probably win it all again this year.
Waycross: Bama needed a legal on sides kick to win one. Clemson needed an illegal pick play to need one. UGA needed to stop the second string QB from completing 2-26 to win one. Clemson & Bama both did what they needed to win. UGA did not.
Big Mac dropping dimes!!! Now only $3.59!! Hahaha
To my eye, Jones played very solid. So did the O line. But, that awesome passing attack is defined by your fantastic receivers. They are physical, fast, excellent route runners, dedicated blockers, and catch everything in the tightest of coverages. Much respect to your entire team. Especially the receivers. Mac earned the right to be in the conversation, but the Heisman talk is better suited to 22 and 17
Great observations, very perceptive. It’s refreshing to read honest comments from someone who loves the game of football, not just their team. It was a great game, and I have a feeling both of these fine squads will have plenty to say regarding the National Championship chase. My hats off to a pair if excellent football teams.
Mac is only good because of the team around him. Mac is only good because he hasn’t played a good defense. I wonder what the next reason for him being overrated will be.
Barring any craziness we all know who is gonna win the Heisman. But Jones should place second. I knew he was good, but he’s turned out to be great.
Tua only got 3 quarters most of the time. Cannot compare these stats
