The Alabama Crimson Tide (11-1, 7-1 SEC) and Florida Gators (10-2, 7-1 SEC) come into Saturday’s SEC Championship Game going in completely different directions.

Alabama enters the game with a 10-game winning streak. Over that stretch, the Crimson Tide has outscored opponents 305-102. In the last four games, Alabama has a 26.25-point average margin of victory.

Florida hasn’t scored more than 26 points since Halloween. The Gators barely escaped with victories against Vanderbilt and South Carolina then needed overtime to beat Florida Atlantic.

On rivalry Saturday, Florida fell to Florida State 27-2. Struggles on offense and injuries have been the biggest problems for the Gators.

Florida has averaged just 13.8 points and 294 yards per game over the last four weeks. Sophomore QB Treon Harris has 670 passing yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions in that same span.

Third-down conversions and red zone scoring have plagued the Gators all season long. Florida is 81st in the country at converting third downs at 37.4 percent, including only 33.9 percent in the last four games.

Florida is even worst at converting red zone trips into points. The Gators have scored on just 62.9 percent of its drives that got inside the opponents’ 20-yard line. That’s fourth-worst in the FBS. In the last three games, Florida has scored on only 33.3 percent of its red zone attempts.

The Gators have been able to win three of their last four due to strong defense. Unfortunately for Florida, the injuries are piling up for the defense.

Ten Gators defensive players are listed as questionable or out for the SEC Championship, including their top two sacks leaders. If several defenders don’t play, the unit might not have enough depth to compete with the Tide.

FLORIDA GATORS CLOSER LOOK

Key Player, offense: Kelvin Taylor, Jr., RB – Since Will Grier’s suspension, Taylor has been the only consistent offensive weapon for the Gators. Taylor leads the team with 1,127 yards from scrimmage — no other Florida player has half of that total. He has 977 rushing yards and 13 TDs this season.

Key Player, defense: Jarrad Davis, Jr., LB – Davis leads the team with 82 total tackles and is second with 10.5 tackles for a loss. He also has 3.5 sacks and an interception.

Key Player, defense: Jonathan Bullard, Sr., DL – One of the two most important Florida players listed as questionable, Bullard has 52 total tackles and 5.5 sacks. Only fellow defensive lineman, Alex McCallister, also questionable, has more sacks. Bullard also leads the team with 16 tackles for loss.
