Alabama is coming out of spring practices and questions still surround the Crimson Tide offense, specifically related to the ongoing quarterback battle for the 2023 season.

For the past couple of weeks, there has been a growing chatter that Alabama might look to add another piece to the QB room coming out of the spring. That idea picked up even more traction with a report from Tuesday afternoon.

Notre Dame QB Tyler Buchner — the team’s starter heading into the 2022 season before an early injury — announced he was hitting the portal. Buchner has been battling for the starting job with Sam Hartman but all signs point to Hartman as the likely starter.

Alabama was one of the teams many fans and analysts thought of upon Buchner’s decision due to his connection with OC Tommy Rees. The two spent time together at Notre Dame before Rees accepted the OC position on Nick Saban’s Alabama staff.

According to John Brice with Football Scoop, Buchner is indeed expected to make a visit to Tuscaloosa after entering the portal. Brice reports that visit could come as soon as Tuesday night.

Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson are the two players that have been battling for the QB1 job for the Crimson Tide. Both players generated mixed reviews for their play during the A-Day Game.
