On top of housing the Heisman Trophy frontrunner, Alabama also has best true freshman in the country.

At least that’s how Pro Football Focus sees it.

Crimson Tide receiver Jaylen Waddle topped PFF’s list of the nation’s top 10 true freshmen after Week 8, which was unveiled Wednesday. The website assigned Waddle a grade of 89.1 and noted that he’s on record-breaking pace for the college level with 4.79 yards per route run.

For reference, former Alabama star Julio Jones is the only NFL receiver to surpass 3.0 yards per route run over the last two seasons.

But Waddle’s traditional stats are also quite impressive for a true freshman. The 5-foot-10, 177-pound Houston native has 21 receptions for 457 yards (that’s an astonishing 21.8 yards per catch) and three touchdowns. Waddle even has a punt return score this year, to boot.

With a true freshman as talented as Waddle at his disposal, it’s no wonder Crimson Tide quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is favored to win the Heisman.
