Could the tide be turning in college football? That’s been the national discussion since a pair of upsets involving perennial powers Alabama and Clemson.

Host No. 10 LSU edged No. 6 Alabama 32-31 to hand the Crimson Tide their second loss of the season. Meanwhile, No.4 Clemson was defeated by Notre Dame 35-14 to fall from the ranks of the undefeated.

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum and Matt Barrie shared their opinions on each program and discussed if better days are behind the powerhouses.

Finebaum didn’t express concern about Clemson under the younger Dabo Swinney, but he was curious about how 71-year-old Alabama coach Nick Saban will deal with this decline.

“I think you have to be legitimately concerned about this Alabama program. They’re not a 10-2 program. That doesn’t make their fans happy. They’re at the pinnacle,” Finebaum said. “… Saban still has the top quarterback in the game. It’s going to be very interesting Matt to see how he handles being off Broadway.”

During the College Football Playoff era, either Alabama or Clemson has qualified every season. Alabama has 3 national titles in that span, while Clemson has captured 2 championships.

Next up for Alabama is a road matchup at No. 12 Ole Miss (3:30 p.m. ET/CBS). Clemson will host Louisville (3:30 p.m. ET/ESPN).
