Bryce Young brought the same kind of humility and unselfishness to the Carolina Panthers’ facility on Friday as he had in Tuscaloosa and across college football in recent years.

At a press conference at the team facility on Friday, Young said he does not want the title as face of the franchise handed to him.

Young said the experience is surreal to him, and he thanked the Panthers’ owner, and the organization leadership for believing in him. “This is an opportunity I don’t take lightly, I don’t take for granted,” he said.

“I want to earn the respect of the locker room first,” Young said. “What I’ve done in the past doesn’t entitle me to anything.”

Young was asked about 3 black quarterbacks being taken in the top 4 of the NFL Draft, and he said it means a lot, and added that he’s thankful for those who blazed the trail before him.

The Panthers signed Andy Dalton as a free agent this offseason and coach Frank Reich said on Thursday night that Young will have to earn the starting job.

Young added that he’s a big basketball fan, used to play some point guard “back in my time.” He’s also mostly a “homebody” away from the football field who likes to watch Netflix.
