Charles Barkley follows college football enough to develop an opinion about the teams at the top, and he has put Alabama and Georgia in a class by themselves entering the national championship game on Monday.

Barkley made an appearance on the latest episode of Next Round Live, and shared his thoughts.

“They’re the 2 best teams by far, I think you saw that during the semifinals,” Barkley said. “There’s no chance Cincinnati or Michigan had any chance whatsoever out there.”

Barkley said he’s looking forward to Monday’s game, and has a lot of love and admiration for Nick Saban.

“I don’t root against Coach Saban, but that being said, I think Georgia’s going to win the game,” Barkley said.

It was suggested that Kirby Smart is one of the best coaches in college football, and Barkley responded, “You can keep saying that, but at some point you’ve got to get over the hump.”

The conversation then shifted to Georgia having a generational defense, and if Smart loses twice to Alabama in the same season, that, “it’s a bad look.”

“I wish that he would do something bold, to be honest with you,” Barkley said. “I wish he could come out and guarantee a win. I think when you’re in this situation, you’ve got to do something bold. Now, you’re going to get your ass handed to you if you lose.”

Barkley then gave the example of Saban switching quarterbacks at halftime of the last national title game matchup with Georgia as something similar that Smart should do.

A bold move like that would galvanize the team in Barkley’s mind.

The NBA legend went on to say that Georgia fans he’s observed don’t believe the Bulldogs can win, and it comes from the way they lost the SEC Championship Game.
