The SEC is known for putting defensive backs in the NFL. In four seasons at Alabama, DeVonta Smith faced many future pro defenders. On Wednesday, he named an Iron Bowl rival as the best player he faced during his Crimson Tide career.

Smith participated in a Bleacher Report “Ask Me Anything” session this week. When asked about the best player he played against, Smith answered former Auburn defensive back Noah Igbinoghene, calling him “best DB I played against.”

@gopgabe123: Best players you played against during your time at Alabama?

The cornerback Noah Igbinoghene from Auburn, best DB I played against

Igbinoghene played three seasons at Auburn (2017-19). He was a wide receiver as a freshman but switched to cornerback ahead of 2018. It turned out to be a wise move. After two seasons on defense, Igbinoghene entered the NFL Draft and was selected No. 30 overall in 2020 by the Miami Dolphins.

As a pro, Smith said he wants to face former Florida State standout Jalen Ramsey.

@Sports___Memes: What CB are you looking forward to matching up against?

Jalen Ramsey, I just like his game and he’s probably the best in the league.

A five-year veteran with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Rams, Ramsey was a first-team All-Pro selection for 2020. Depending on where Smith lands in the NFL Draft, we may get to see a Ramsey-Smith matchup on a Sunday this fall.
