When Miami drafted Tua Tagovailoa with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, it was seen as a “quarterback of the future” pick for the Dolphins.

The club’s recent decision to name the former Alabama quarterback the starter began “Tua Time” mania among fans and media members everywhere. One ESPN analyst, however, thinks the Dolphins would “have to” go with another quarterback of the future is he’s available on 2021 draft day.

“If for whatever reason they wind up with the No. 1 overall pick, you have to take Trevor Lawrence,” McElroy said on ESPN’s “Get Up,” per 247Sports. “You have to. This guy is a generational talent that checks every single box from a maturity standpoint to a physical skillset standpoint, size, speed, athleticism, accuracy. You name it, he’s the best quarterback that’s come out since Andrew Luck (in 2012). If he’s available and you’re on the clock, you’ve got to take him regardless of what you see from Tua.

McElroy opined the Dolphins would not necessarily have to make the move if Lawrence were not available.

“However, I think Tua and Justin Fields are comparable prospects,” McElroy added. “Lawrence is in a little bit of a class of his own.”

“But to me, I would not give up on Tua in favor of Fields. However, I would, potentially, consider that possibility if in fact I was on the clock with Trevor Lawrence still available,” the ESPN analyst added.
