Tua Tagovailoa continues to impress with his incredible start to the season. He even has the attention of a legend from his school’s biggest rival.

During an appearance on “The Paul Finebaum Show” on Friday, former Auburn coach Pat Dye praised the Alabama quarterback, going as far to say that Tagovailoa is more impressive than a pair of Crimson Tide legends.

“Tua is as good as I’ve seen in the SEC,” Dye said on the show. “He’s better than [Joe] Namath and [Ken] Stabler.”

That is certainly strong praise for Tagovailoa, who has passed for 1,495 yards, 18 touchdowns and no interceptions during Alabama’s 6-0 start. He also has yet to play in a fourth quarter this season.

Dye, who coached at Auburn from 1981-92, also made sure to talk about the Alabama-Auburn rivalry during his appearance on Finebaum’s show. And he had to clarify one thing.

“I came here in 1981. We’ve [Auburn] won 19 and they’ve [Alabama] won 18 since then,” Dye said on the show. “So, we ain’t afraid to play Alabama. In fact, we like to play Alabama.”
