Frank Reich and the Carolina Panthers hit the field Monday for OTAs, the first with Reich at the helm of the franchise. It’s also the first for the team with former Alabama quarterback Bryce Young as the No. 1 pick in the draft.

During Carolina’s first spring practice, Young took the majority of the snaps with the first-team offense. Afterward, Reich addressed the full QB room of Young, Andy Dalton and Matt Corral but Reich particularly compliment Young’s performance.

According to Reich, Young’s command was “10 out of 10” in the first practice.

“Just complete command, control, poise,” said Reich. “You could tell the way he was seeing it, the way he was working through progressions, accuracy in the throw, ball placement of the throw, it was all very good.”

Reich also discussed the importance of having a veteran like Andy Dalton in the room for Young to watch, but the head coach also emphasized how quickly Young has picked things up as a pro:

“It’s really good for Bryce to kind of see Andy handle things the way he’s handled things,” Reich said. “And, obviously, Bryce has picked it up extremely fast. But it feels like we’ve got a good plan and we’re doing the right thing.”

This is just the start of spring practices, so there is still a lot of work to be done before opening the season. However, it sounds like Young is doing everything he needs to in order to become the starting QB as a rookie.
