Gary Danielson went on CBS Sports HQ to preview the Iron Bowl on Wednesday. While breaking down the rivalry clash, Danielson offered his thoughts on when Milroe solidified his status as the team’s quarterback.

“I really think Jalen won over this football team in the (South Florida) game that he wasn’t on,” Danielson said. “He handled it like a man, he continued to try and improve. He did get another shot and he was ready for it. If you’re on that team, how can you not look at your leader and say if he can take it and he can improve, I think everybody else on their team kinda looks in the mirror and says we can do the same.”

Milroe was benched for the South Florida game after a rough start to the season. After the 17-3 win for Alabama, Milroe became the starting quarterback again for the Crimson Tide and never looked back.

Danielson had more praise for the sophomore quarterback.

“It’s been a tremendous football season for Alabama, but I think it’s all Jalen Milroe. I think he was right to say, ‘Hey, don’t pigeonhole me as a quarterback. I wanna be a passer. I wanna be a leader. I wanna be the guy who goes up to the microphone after the game when things don’t work out and take a leadership position and say I didn’t play well enough.’ When he does play great and say it wasn’t me, it was the guys around me. I think we’re seeing leadership at a really high level.”

In 10 starts this season, Milroe has completed 142-of-214 passes for 2,267 yards while adding 19 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He’s also contributed 332 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 108 carries.

Alabama goes on the road to take on Auburn this Saturday at 3:30 p.m ET on CBS.
