Ja’Corey Brooks has seen enough to offer an early impression of new offensive coordinator Tommy Rees.

Rees will turn 31 next month and was Notre Dame’s starting quarterback in 2013. Rees replaced Bill O’Brien, a 53-year old who took the same job with the New England Patriots and who played college football in the early 1990s for Brown University.

“I wouldn’t say too much is new, but it’s a lot different,” Brooks told reporters on Wednesday. “I would say he’s more young, got a little bit more swag.”

Brooks is looking to build on last season’s numbers when he made 39 catches for 674 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Brooks didn’t reveal much about quarterbacks Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson, as he only said that they’re competing and working hard and getting the job done.

Brooks also applauded JUCO transfer Malik Benson: “I’ve been loving his energy, man. Since he came in for the bowl game, he’s been coming in, working, bringing positive energy.”
