Jahmyr Gibbs is “put you out of the frame” fast.

At a joint practice with the Detroit Lions and the New York Giants on Tuesday, Gibbs went viral for absolutely torching Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke on a little stutter step. Okereke stopped his feet and then it was over. At one point, Gibbs had created so much separation between him and his defender that Okereke was completely out of the frame of the video the Lions shared on Twitter.

Gibbs was drafted 12th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. The typical refrain is that teams shouldn’t spend a first-round pick on a running back. But Gibbs looks like a truly special talent — a multi-faceted, every-down kind of back — and Detroit had no qualms.

Things appear to be going well as his rookie season approaches.

“Jahmyr is just, what we’ve been able to put on his plate is probably the most shocking thing,” Detroit running backs coach Scottie Montgomery said on 97.1 The Ticket. “We’re training him in every way that we can train him, multiple positions, and he’s handling it well. And when he gets a chance to flash, he flashes.

“… We haven’t really even seen everything he can do, we don’t really know where his roof is right now, but his versatility makes him truly unique.”

Detroit linebacker Alex Anzalone joked on Tuesday that not having to cover Gibbs himself made his day a little less stressful.

“He’s twitchy,” Anzalone said, per MLive’s Kyle Meinke. “He’s fast. He’s got a dead leg to him that can get you and once he gets away from you and gets separation it’s tough to recover.”

A certain New York Giants linebacker now knows that all too well.
