Jalen Milroe and Alabama earned revenge on rival Tennessee with a 34-20 victory last weekend in Tuscaloosa.

The sophomore quarterback completed 14 of his 21 passes for 220 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception. During an appearance on the SEC Network’s Read & React, Milroe diagrammed some of his successful plays with Roman Harper and Cole Cubelic.

Milroe broke down the ins and outs of his thought process which led to his 10-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Burton in the 2nd quarter.

“It came from preparation throughout the week. The key thing we talked about going into the game was finding the near safety and the post safety and all the looks that they had,” Milroe said. “Whether that was 1 high, 2 high, acknowledging that and figuring out windows that we can attack with their defense.”

Milroe shed even more insight into the intricacies when making decisions in the heat of the moment.

“With everything, a safety is going to look at the quarterback’s eyes. So as much as possible, you try to gain information pre-snap. Then post-snap when you try to read and react, you look at little tendencies that the defense gave,” Milroe said. “I knew that he was looking me down while I was going through my progression. I saw windows on the field and I tried to attack it. I tried to place the ball in the right hole without getting in harms way.”

Since losing to Texas and being benched for the win against South Florida, Milroe has thrown 8 touchdowns against 3 interceptions with 5 consecutive victories.

Alabama is on a bye week and next up is a critical SEC West clash against visiting LSU on Nov. 4. Alabama can clinch the division with a victory against LSU and 1 Ole Miss loss in the next 2 games.
