When Jaylen Waddle significantly injured his ankle against Tennessee back on Oct. 24, it appeared his season — and possibly his career at Alabama — was over.

During the opening kickoff of the Tennessee game, Waddle suffered a fractured ankle and was spotted in an ambulance during the game.

However, there is hope that the star receiver could suit up for the Crimson Tide a week from today when Nick Saban’s team faces Ohio State in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

According to Matt Zenitz of AL.com, Waddle is expected to return to the practice field for Alabama this week in the hopes that he can play in the upcoming title game.

For the season, Waddle has 25 catches for 557 yards and four touchdowns. For his career, he has 103 catches for 1,965 yards and 17 receiving touchdowns.

Waddle’s 90-yard touchdown reception against Georgia was the turning point in Alabama’s win over the previously unbeaten Bulldogs. Prior to the score, Alabama was losing but the touchdown was the first of three unanswered scores by the Crimson Tide.

Alabama eventually won the game 41-24.
