Update: It appears that Josh Gattis’ tenure at Maryland was very short. The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman reports that Michigan jumped in and swiped Gattis from Locksley and Maryland. Earlier reports indicated that Gattis was heading to Maryland to join Locksley’s staff.

Original Story

Alabama OC Mike Locksley is taking one of the Tide’s top assistants with him to Maryland, per Rivals.com.

Wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Josh Gattis is expected to follow Locksley to become the Terrapins offensive coordinator.

Gattis served on Alabama’s staff for just the 2018 season after coming over from Penn State, where he previously worked since 2014. No doubt that Gattis played a big role for Alabama in helping the Tide develop one of the nation’s top receiving corps, led by the dynamic Jerry Jeudy.

Alabama had five players, including TE Irv Smith, with 40-plus catches. Jeudy, the Biletnikoff Award winner, led all receivers with 68 catches for 1,315 yards and 14 TDs.

Gattis is a very good recruiter, and he’s proven he can develop talent. Now, he returns to the Big Ten where he coached from 2014-17.

Maryland hired Locksley on December 4, 2018, after he guided Alabama’s offense to arguably become the most explosive in college football.
