Former Alabama defensive line coach Bo Davis has found a new home as the Detroit Lions announced his hiring Friday.

Davis will work as a defensive line coach under first-year head coach Matt Patricia, the former New England defensive coordinator. Obviously, both coaches have connections to Nick Saban and Bill Belichick, which could explain their connection in Detroit.

You may recall Alabama forced Davis to resign leading up to the 2016 NFL Draft as he was caught breaking NCAA recruiting rules after he met with prospects during a non-contact period. Davis was out of coaching for much of 2016 before landing a job at UTSA, which is led by former SEC assistant coach Frank Wilson. That job didn’t last long, however, as the NCAA gave Davis a two-year show-cause penalty during the offseason heading into the 2017 season.

Davis is listed as a 24-year coaching veteran by the Lions, with the vast majority of his experience coming at the collegiate level. Davis’ show-cause expires in 2019.
