On Tuesday, Mac Jones reportedly became the starting quarterback of the New England Patriots, who released Cam Newton while ending the preseason QB battle. Now, Jones has a big opportunity heading into his rookie season.

He also won’t be the only former Alabama quarterback leading an NFL offense this fall. Tua Tagovailoa is poised to lead the Miami Dolphins’ offense, while Jalen Hurts is likely to be under center again for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Those 3 aren’t just all former Alabama standouts — they were once all on the team at the same time.

The Crimson Tide shared a photo of Hurts, Tagovailoa and Jones together during their college days on Twitter, and another former Alabama player chimed in. Marlon Humphrey, who is now a cornerback for the Baltimore Ravens, used that tweet as an opportunity to educate potential future Tide players:

Hurts, Tagovailoa and Jones all had success at Alabama, and they’re each in a good spot now.

Hurts spent 3 seasons with the Crimson Tide before he transferred to Oklahoma, then became a second-round pick of the Eagles in 2020. Tagovailoa and Jones spent their entire college careers at Alabama, then went on to be first-round picks in the NFL Draft.

Because Jones is now the Patriots’ starter, that sets up an intriguing matchup for Week 1 of the season. He’ll be going up against Tagovailoa’s Dolphins in a battle of former Alabama QBs.

So as Humphrey pointed out, these former Crimson Tide standouts all ended up where they hoped to be as NFL starters. And there will likely be future Alabama quarterbacks who get there, too.
