Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins emerged in 2015 and turned in the kind of play that made him such a likable quarterback at Michigan State.

Well, except for that bowl game on New Year’s Day in 2011.

Cousins and the No. 7 Spartans (11-1) faced the No. 15 Crimson Tide (9-3) in the Capital One Bowl that day. Needless to say, that was a pretty angry Alabama team that had given up a 24-0 lead in the Iron Bowl to Cam Newton and eventual national champion Auburn.

Michigan State was dominated 49-7 in a performance very similar to the 38-0 cremation in the Cotton Bowl this season.

Cousins took part in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything), and Cousins was asked about the biggest hit he’s ever experienced. It probably wasn’t his favorite question, but here’s his answer:

“The hardest hit I’ve ever received was against the Alabama Crimson Tide at the 2011 Capital One Ball (sic), Courtney Upshaw came off the left edge, also known as the blind side, and hit me so hard that I felt like I’d been in a car accident,” Cousins wrote, “and that was the only game in college that I’d left and did not return, so that is the biggest one I ever took.”

Cousins, who was sacked four times before taking himself out in the fourth quarter, is referring to this particular sack, which jarred the ball from Cousins’ grasp. Michigan State lost 30 yards on the play and had to punt.

Upshaw was named defensive MVP in that game, finishing with 2 sacks, 3 tackles for loss and that forced fumble.
