After Ole Miss fired offensive coordinator Dan Werner this offseason, the ex-Rebels assistant joined Alabama coach Nick Saban’s staff earlier this month.

While addressing the hire of the new offensive analyst after Tuesday’s practice, Saban joked that the Crimson Tide’s history against Werner’s Ole Miss squads led to Werner’s new position:

“Dan Werner, from Ole Miss, do I need to tell our fans or anybody on our staff the issues that we’ve had with their offense the last couple of years?” he joked in the press conference.

Saban then went on to say that Werner was an outstanding assistant for Hugh Freeze and should be a valuable addition to the Alabama staff:

“Always had a tremendous amount of respect for what they do and how they coach it. I think it will help us on offense and defense to have a guy around here that can add some knowledge and experience to the way they do RPOs, some of the things they did in the passing game. I’ve always had a lot of respect for Dan.”

Ole Miss lost to Alabama 48-43 in 2016 after defeating the Crimson Tide 23-17 in 2014 and 43-37 in 2015, so clearly Werner had Saban’s number. Now, they’ll be working together, especially when the two schools meet up in Tuscaloosa in Week 5 of the 2017 season.
