Paul Finebaum and Desmond Howard debated what it is going to be one of the most asked questions over the next 24 hours or so.

The two joined Get Up on Friday morning to discuss Alabama’s Playoff chances if the Tide beat Georgia on Saturday in the SEC Championship. If Alabama can knock off the Bulldogs, it will certainly have a much better chance of reaching the Playoff, but it would likely need some outside help as well.

Finebaum believes that if Alabama wins, it should be enough to get the Tide into the Playoff.

“The SEC’s the best league in college football,” Finebaum said. “It has 5 of the top 13 or 14 schools and Nick Saban understands that. And on top of all that, he would’ve beaten the No. 1 team in the country. The two biggest wins this year after that happens, assuming it does, would be Michigan over Ohio State and obviously Alabama over Georgia.”

Howard has other thoughts. He thinks that if Alabama wins, it won’t be enough to boost them into the top 4. However, he also believes a Georgia loss wouldn’t be enough to knock the Bulldogs out of the top 4.

“If Alabama beats Georgia, I don’t know if Georgia can fall that far out of the College Football Playoff,” Howard said. “And I don’t know if Alabama can climb that high. When you look at the rankings, for them to put Alabama where they are means it’s gonna be a steep climb for them to get that high, even if they beat the No. 1 team in the country. Georgia on the other hand, I believe because they’re at the No. 1 position, I don’t see them falling all the way down to No. 5, so I think Georgia still has an outside chance of getting in.”
