The quarterback position was a big mystery the entire off-season at Alabama, as Nick Saban would not announce who the starter was until the day before the game.

However, after the performance in Week 1 against Middle Tennessee State, the Jalen Milroe hype across the country is real.

Milroe threw for 194 yards and 3 touchdowns, while also rushing for 48 yards and 2 touchdowns, including 1 highlight run.

Despite the incredible performance in the opener, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum is not ready to announce Milroe as the next Alabama great quarterback.

“We could have been in deep depression talking about Alabama, but instead, the optimism is literally through the roof after what we saw by Milroe,” Finebaum said. “I am always hesitant to jump into it, but it was live competition. You’re going to see this team rally around him. Is it a false flag? I will let you know in a week, but it is momentum and I think Alabama needed it.”

While the performance against Middle Tennessee State definitely should help the confidence of Milroe and the staff, there is definitely a bigger test coming up very soon.

The Crimson Tide welcome future SEC foe Texas to Tuscaloosa, in a rematch of last year’s 20-19 thrilling win in Austin.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and the game is on ESPN.
