Paul Finebaum blasted Mario Cristobal after Miami’s disastrous defeat against Georgia Tech during his most recent appearance on McElroy And Cubelic In The Morning.

Miami had the game iced and only needed to kneel to seal the victory. Instead, Cristobal called up a running play, which resulted in a fumble and the ensuing game-winning touchdown by Georgia Tech.

Finebaum floats an interested theory after the catastrophic collapse.

“You can’t make a play that stupid. When all you have to do is kneel, there’s no upside. I understand the bully mentality of sometimes okay let’s score 1 more,” Finebaum said. “I hear a lot of theories out there that this was personal. It had to do with Brent Key. They were on the staff together. Clearly Nick Saban made a call in favor of Brent Key over Cristobal.”

However, Finebaum doesn’t care whether that theory holds weight because this was a mistake of epic proportions that could’ve easily been averted.

“But even if that’s so, what difference does it make about 1 more play in a game that you’ve already won? I think that will haunt Mario Cristobal,” Finebaum said. “You just threw away a win against a terrible team.”

Finebaum punctuated his take with 1 final jab at the former Alabama assistant.

“I know the 5 or 6 Georgia Tech fans out there are saying we still had to score at the end. Well good for you. Congratulations,” Finebaum said. “But the game would’ve been over if Mario Cristobal would’ve used half a brain.”
