Injuries are piling up for quarterbacks in Alabama named Tagovailoa.

Alabama QB commit Taulia Tagovailoa, the younger brother of Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa, will not play in the upcoming Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic, AL.com is reporting. The game is set for Dec. 17 in Montgomery, Alabama, and the development leaves the Alabama roster with just one QB.

The younger Tagovailoa, who plays for Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama, suffered the injury, reportedly a strained labrum and rotator cuff, in a semifinal victory over Hoover, but it wasn’t revealed until after the championship-game loss. He played in the 7A state championship game.

“There’s no excuse and say if my arm was good I’d do this or that,” he said. “We played a great team. Sometimes you’ve got to battle through injuries. I’m sure some of their guys were battling through injuries, too. There’s no excuse. At the end of the day, it’s whether you win or lose.”

Tagovailoa is a 4-star pro-style prospect listed at 5-foot-11 and 203 pounds. He committed to Alabama in April and holds 14 offers, including several from SEC schools.

The Alabama High School Athletic Association has not announced the roster move, but that is expected to happen before players report Wednesday.

Tagovailoa is also scheduled to play the All-American Bowl in San Antonio and the Polynesian Bowl in Hawaii, both in January. It’s unclear if the injury will prevent him from playing in those events.

Auburn quarterback commit Bo Nix is the other quarterback selected to play in the all-star game, which features the top senior football players from the two states.
