The New England Patriots are liking themselves some SEC running backs.

Former Alabama star Damien Harris is the latest to turn heads at training camp. Here’s this review from Jeff Howe of The Athletic-Boston: “Damien Harris continues to stand out, and it’s not just as a runner. He did a nice job picking up a block today and looks comfortable in his route tree. He’s been the best back in camp.”

Harris received just 4 carries for 12 yards as a rookie last season in a running back group with former Georgia star Sony Michel, and also Rex Burkhead and James White. New England also added Lamar Miller. Harris still made the best of what was basically a “redshirt” year.

Michel has had offseason foot surgery, and Harris may be filling in some of that void, and see more opportunities in preseason action.

“It’s great,” Harris told Patriots.com. “I have so many guys to learn from,” Harris said. “Sony is a guy I knew from college and seeing his level of success was exciting. Rex and James have developed over the years. There’s so much I can learn from them on and off the field. Listening to what they’re telling me. How to become a pro.

“They all played their part in helping me learn and develop. The message from all of them is the same: Be ready because you never know when your time will come and you don’t want to miss it. Stay the course, keep learning and be available.”
