Steve Sarkisian watched closely how Nick Saban ran the Alabama program, and took away several traits that explain why Saban has had the success he’s had over a long period of time.

The Texas coach shared some of those thoughts during a recent visit on The Rich Eisen Show.

Sarkisian spent 2 years at Alabama as offensive coordinator under Saban from 2019-20 before he took the Texas job in January 2021.

“He’s the greatest to ever do it for a reason,” Sarkisian said, via 247Sports. “But I think one of the things he does a tremendous job of is that he lives a very regimented and disciplined life. What I mean by that is that he is very structured. He knows what he is going to do at what times of the day. In turn, that spills into the entire organization and the team. They operate in a way that is very structured and very disciplined. They know what is expected of them on a daily basis. I think that is a byproduct of who Nick is as a person. That doesn’t mean they aren’t fun or that they aren’t tough and physical. That doesn’t mean they don’t play fast or anything else. But I think it stems from the regimen and discipline he has in his life that then, in turn, bleeds into the organization and team.”
